Conditions
This environmental piece is built around water sustainability, hydrology and the conditions of existence in reference to science and art. All life pivots around access to water - everything from plants to animals to man. Without water, there would be no life on the planet. This piece makes us aware of the importance of our resources and the particular critical conditions we face regarding potable/drinking water. Taking for granted the availability of water is not the case in many parts of the world where the taps run dry. Many geographical areas face inadequate potable water rendering it undrinkable or if ingested, resulting in dire consequences. As water sources dry up, conditions become acute for all forms of life forcing migration, or worse.
Mapping out our patterns of existence, this piece portrays an X-Y axis graph of human water usage. Multilevel, undulating welded steel twigs and weeds clinically line up over a bar. The twigs and branches portray an X-Y grid representing the average amount of water a person uses in the course of a normal day in the United States. This average varies depending on the geography of available water and in today’s climate of uncertainty, the seasonal/monthly/daily availability. The price of water and the economics of ownership of water resources play an important role in future sustainability and global social politics.
