Tabula Rasa

Glass, stainless steel, metal, incense ashes

2" x 9" x 6"

Tabula rasa applies the stillness of Japanese qualities of seijaku - of serenity in the midst of activity. This piece offers some thought to current global conflicts.

The glass bullet contains the ashes of incense as the final by-product of life setting alight and freeing the spiritual body to become a Tabula rasa once more. The fragile transparent glass cartridge with its dephlogistoned payload of ash addresses the fragility of life and invokes the poet Matsuo Basho’s revered Haiku of the samurai/warrior.
